The short version: your photo is analyzed on your iPhone and never leaves it. ClassicalLens has no accounts and no trackers. To choose a piece, only an anonymous, abstract reading of the mood — a handful of numbers, never the image — is sent to our recommendation service.
Who we are
ClassicalLens ("the app", "we", "us") is an iPhone app that reads the mood of a photographed moment and recommends a single classical-music piece. This policy explains what the app does and does not do with your information.
What we do not collect
- We do not require an account, sign-in, name, or email to use the app.
- We do not upload, store, or transmit your photographs.
- We do not collect your location, contacts, or device identifiers for tracking.
- We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs.
Your photos are analyzed on your device
When you capture or choose a photo, the analysis of its mood — color, light, brightness, texture, and overall atmosphere — happens entirely on your iPhone. The photograph itself is never sent to us or to any third party.
What is sent off the device
To select a fitting piece, the app sends only a small, abstract mood reading derived on-device. This contains no image data and nothing that identifies you. Specifically, it is limited to:
- Five mood values on a 0–1 scale (valence, energy, warmth, brightness, complexity);
- A single dominant-mood label (for example, "serene" or "nostalgic");
- A coarse lighting descriptor; and
- Two low-resolution "bucketed" values summarizing color saturation and visual detail.
That is the entire payload. From it, a person could not reconstruct your photo or learn who or where you are.
Who processes the mood reading
The mood reading is sent to our processing endpoint (a stateless Cloudflare Worker that we operate), which forwards it to our AI provider, Anthropic (the Claude API), to generate the recommendation. Our endpoint does not log or store the reading — it is processed in transit only. Anthropic processes the request to return a result and handles it under its own commercial terms; the data contains no personal information. If the recommendation service is unavailable, the app falls back to an on-device recommendation and sends nothing at all.
What is stored on your device
- Your Collection. Moments you choose to keep (a thumbnail and the matched piece) are stored locally on your device only. They are never uploaded.
- Preferences. Simple settings, such as your preferred music service, are stored locally.
You can remove saved moments at any time in the app, and deleting the app removes all of this data.
Subscriptions and purchases
ClassicalLens offers auto-renewable subscriptions. Purchases are processed by Apple through your App Store account. We do not receive or store your name, payment-card details, or Apple ID. Apple's handling of your purchase is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
Links to music services
When you tap Listen, the app opens Apple Music or Spotify. Once you leave ClassicalLens, the privacy policy of that service applies. ClassicalLens does not stream, host, or distribute music.
Children
ClassicalLens is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security & retention
Requests to our endpoint are made over encrypted HTTPS. Because we do not operate accounts and do not store the mood reading or your photos, there is no personal data on our servers to retain.
Your choices
- Decline or revoke camera access in iOS Settings (you can still use "Try a sample moment").
- Delete saved moments in the app.
- Delete the app to remove all locally stored data.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "Last updated" date.
